It seems, to me, that the point is not popularity,
or truth. But "compressibility". And also the possible
relations between AIT and the quantum. I do not know
whether MWI or simulations emphasize "compressibility",
or not. But I remember that John Bell was very interested
in determinism and in a sort of super-determinism
(involving also the observers). And Eberhard (1978)
wrote an interesting long paper about possible
determinism within the quantum (and related effects)
and possible pseudo-randomness within the quantum.
But also Page, Ghirardi, and perhaps Yurtsever
wrote something along these lines.
