Its a unix mailbox format. Used by various unix mailers, such as elm,
pine and mutt, etc.

If you use a browser (Mozilla, Seamonkey, and presumably Thunderbird)
to read you mail, you can often find mboxes in the
.mozilla/$profile/????.slt/Mail/$server or
.mozilla/$profile/????.slt/Mail/Local\ Folders directory. These contain the
data of the folders you have created in your mail client. The mboxes
are the files not ending in .msf.

Of course, what these browsers do on a Windows system I have no idea.

An mbox is a plain text file, and consists of emails with all their
headers concatenated together. Each email starts with the word "From"
