1963 doesn't strike me as credible, but I don't have the reference book
handy to contradict it.

Amusingly, Webster's Third New International has an entry for "cods," which
they oddly report as being the "plural of cod, a fish." This isn't credible,
either. In fact it's a load of, since the plural of cod is cod. Cods is a
synonym for codswallop.
